New in the regulations: class for historic rally cars

As a rally organizer, we always try to respond to the wishes of our participants and to take current developments in the scene into account.

On the one hand, we have to acknowledge that it is becoming increasingly difficult to prepare current vehicle models for events like ours. On the other hand, there are a number of off-road enthusiasts whose rally cars from past years are no longer competitive in the vehicle classes at current events. But exactly these vehicles are the cars that have made the myth of the “marathon rally” real for decades – the dream of adventure, of experiencing the limits of man and material up close.

Even if there will not (yet) be an “ElChott-Classic” in the future, we make it possible to take part in our events with these vehicles in a specially created class.

For this purpose, the class “CH – cars historical” was introduced in the regulations with immediate effect.

There are two basic requirements for registration in this class:

  • The production date of the vehicle must be before 01/01/1990.
  • The main components of the vehicle, such as the engine, turbocharger, transmission, axles and chassis (springs/dampers), including the permissible technical modifications, must have been available in identical construction before January 1st, 1990. In case of doubt, especially in the case of special conversions, the proof must be provided by the team.

At our events “Rallye ElChott” and “Rallye-Trail Germany”, the class CH will start together with all other 4×4 vehicles. On very long special stages or special stages that are particularly demanding due to the nature of the terrain different or shortened routes will be driven.

All details on technically permissible changes, safety regulations and mandatory and emergency equipment can be found in the regulations.

In addition to the described change in the regulations, we would like to point out that in addition to vehicles with conventional combustion engines, vehicles with alternative drives (hybrid / battery-electric / fuel cell) will also be expressly permitted in the vehicle classes CS, T2 and T1 from 2022, provided they meet all other requirements of the respective vehicle class.
