About the situation in Tunisia

Dear Friends of the rally,

current events in Tunisia give all of us cause for concern. And the public reporting is doing not so much, to answer our questions for the situation in the host country of the rally ElChott.

Of course we want and we will provide to our participants an event with a high degree of safety. But in spite or perhaps because of this, it will not help to make panic.

For example Tunisia Tourists have not understood, why they had to cancel their holidays and fly home. Nothing was felt in the tourist resorts about revolt and political crisis.

I get similar information from our partners in Tunisia itself: So reports the agency that is responsible for our entry into the southern restricted area, about tumult in the cities of the North, but which are now controlled. The government will made every effort to resolve the crisis quickly as possible and without violence, to preserve the image of Tunisia as a safe tourist destination.

And we are the people who have benefited with our rally from the hospitality in Tunisia. So we should also be the first to give the evidence: Nothing really changed in this image.

On my way to Libya at 29 February I will go thru Tunisia.  I will meet with our rally attendants and I will have an appointment with the military that is responsible for the restricted area. After that I can tell you my first-hand impressions about the security situation.

The route planning for the El Chott 2011 is nearly completed. And for the planned pre-tour for early April there is no obstacle, according to current knowledge.

Details about the situation in Tunisia, a view back to the El Chott 2010 and a first preview of the edition 2011 of the rally with information about changes and improvements, I will give to you at this coming Saturday, 22 January, at the follow-up meeting at the Hotel Eisenacher Haus.
