In July Ulrich Otto died after a short, serious illness. The rally ElChott was his favourite event and his idea was to participate another few times. This is now not longer granted to him. In 2011 he took part despite a devastating cancer diagnosis and occupied in the Enduro class the second place.

… a lot could be reported.

We have written graet special stages, but at the other hand we omited some passages. Because of strong winds in the dunes, the driving in the sand was very difficult.

As always, we met many friendly people. On 20th of March, the Tunisian Independence Day, resolute but peaceful youths demonstrating for the new Tunisia, a sure sign of the new freedom and the growing democracy.

But because of the still unstable situation in the Libyan and Algerian desert areas near the South-Tunisian borderlines, the previously granted permission to enter the southern restricted area has been disabled again. Although there are no specific incidents, the Tunisian military can not assume the responsible for our security at this stage. On this basis we plan from now also for the rally in autumn without El Borma.

In the coming weeks, I will evaluate the absolved tracks and the written roadbooks. And I will bring it in a printable state. In case we have an improved security situation in the south in October, we will have of course prepared roadbooks for the special stages in the southern restricted area.

Either way more than 3000 exciting rally kilometers expecting you !
